How do I qualify for Pell Grants? – United States Federal Government Grants Department

To qualify, you must:

Are currently receiving full-time, minimum wage employment in a position requiring a bachelor’s degree or higher, or equivalent training and credentials, or

Meet the eligibility requirements for a Pell Grant.

What are the eligibility requirements for the Perkins and Direct Loan?

Qualifiers for the Pell Grant and Direct Loan depend on how much time you study and how many other people in your household you support.

How do I apply?

You can apply online or in person at the Pell Grant Office on Main Street, Columbus, Ohio.

Who can apply?

Anyone who has a total cumulative household income no less than $40,000 from sources other than SNAP. Other sources include:

State, Puerto Rico, or Federal income tax and/or Supplemental Security Income. Your household income must be below the SNAP poverty guidelines. See the Federal Income Tax Instructions

State unemployment insurance

Retirement savings programs or defined contribution plans. Your household income must be below the SNAP eligibility guidelines. See the Federal Income Tax Instructions

A noncustodial parent or adult caretaker in your household. If the other person is older than 18 years old with an annual household income up to $12,800 (US), he can apply through the Student Financial Assistance Administration. This includes parents who are over age 21 and parents who are between 21 and 24 years of age with an annual household income up to $25,000 (US).

If you are an employee of a participating employer (other than the University System that manages and administers grants, scholarships, and other financial support for academic programs), apply through the Office of Benefits at 937 South High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43205-2125.

When is each semester and deadline for applying?

All applications must be received by the deadline for the current academic semesters.

I want to be enrolled in my degree program. What are the process requirements?

All candidates for degrees must successfully complete a course of study prior to enrolling in a new course of study.

In order to enroll in the program in progress, students must meet the following criteria for completion of the degree:

An academic transcript, including course enrollment

Additional work experience that is comparable to the work experience of other candidates
