The Community Immigrant Fellowship program places young people in local community service activities. They may be part of a summer camp, a youth leadership program, a school-based program, a day or evening program, and volunteer jobs that have a focus on youth-led volunteer and community service activities.

Each CIF grant lasts a year, though the duration varies. Applicants must be between 12 and 38 years old and attend a community college on a full scholarship program. To be considered for grants, the applicant must have completed at least one year of community college. Students who do not meet these eligibility requirements will not receive a grant.

Program length

There is no set length for a grant, but the length of the grant is defined at CIF Grant Application Submission.

How do I get a grant?

You are required at the start of a term of service to receive help from the CIF community. A CIF grant can be either on-campus or off-campus.

After the placement, students may submit an application to the Office of Community Services for funding for the remainder of their term service. If, at the end of the term, the student does not receive funds, the University will send money directly to the student’s account at home.

How long is the term?

The CIF period ends when a student completes their term of service. However, the amount of funding a student receives will depend heavily on the length and nature of their service. This is because in the case of community service grants, the amount that is funded depends greatly on the nature of the programs they do, as well as which community they serve. For instance, an on-campus summer camp could pay for its costs, while a day or evening program would typically require its staff and volunteers to work a full week.

How much funding does CIF provide?

Funding is based on the student’s academic standing, experience and educational background, as explained within the Grant Application Submission. To receive a grant, students must meet the criteria outlined in the following sections:
