Direct grants are grants made by the UK Government to projects for a particular purpose. A typical activity for a grant is a ‘study’. For more information see the Grant and Grant Procedure (GPP).
How do I get one?
You can get one from a project. They are normally set up during the study period and you are invited to apply.
The funding agreement will specify ‘the terms of service/guarantee if you need one of the services’.
What if I need the help myself?
There is no need to ask for financial help:
If the project is being carried out as part of a University project that is funded through a University Research Award you may be able to apply for financial support, eg, to pay for travel expenses and a stipend. If the project is being carried out after the grant period, you should apply during that period.
When doing an assessment you should ask:
to see an assessment form if you have been invited to make an assessment
For specific funding arrangements see the Grant and Grant Procedure (GPP).
An open letter to the people of the UK, from a refugee in the United States
Hello everyone it is me, the British citizen who is a refugee from Myanmar. This is a hard situation to write but I must speak out.
I came to the UK in early June 2014 and I feel safe and happy here in the UK. But my life is in danger. As we all know, Myanmar was the scene of an attack by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), one of the biggest armed Buddhist-based group in Burma. On the 1 November 2014, a bomb exploded on the train in Cox’s Bazar, leaving two of our innocent passengers dead. My fellow passengers received burns and severe injuries. We believe this attack was a revenge attack for our attack that hit the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army in April of the same year. And this attack is a continuation of the attacks carried out daily by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA).
Since the attack of 1.9.2014 which killed two innocent people and injured many more, the Bangladeshi police have arrested some of our Rohingya friends and some people in ARSA have threatened our families and even killed some of them.
We believe that with the support of the government, the police will soon reach our communities in villages around Cox’s Bazar. They will probably also arrest our relatives
