If this video is any indication, you can watch it with three friends, as long as they’re on the same page. This is a new thing, and it’s going to change the way you shop this week on the internet.
I’m not sure if it will lead to other people dropping the dollar in favor of something even more valuable, but it sure as hell made me think of something interesting.
The most successful film producer on record is the head of Walt Disney Pictures, but it’s the man with a lot of talent behind him who has the best shot at staying in Hollywood’s top tier for decades to come.
On his last day in California last week, Michael Eisner was greeted by a sea of fans and media in the lobby of the Beverly Wilshire, the swanky Santa Monica hotel where he first arrived to head the Disney studios in 1973. It was a surreal afternoon. People waited for hours to see Disney boss Eisner and some of the studio’s biggest names, from writer-producer Bob Iger to co-chairmen and CEO Robert Iger and CEO Robert Iger Jr., at a lunch to discuss the future of Disney’s film production.
I’ve been lucky enough to see this kind of activity dozens of times over the years, and each time, the same thing occurs: Eisner’s guests are all about a lot less than just making movies.
They’re in it for more than just a job. Most are business executives on behalf of major corporations, and at least a few are looking in earnest for a return in the industry.
The industry is shifting in Eisner’s direction. He’s been out of retirement for more than a decade and has stepped down from both Disney and Fox News Media to take a lead role overseeing Netflix, which is worth more than $55 billion and is looking to add hundreds of new titles to its catalog, and Fox, which is worth more than $20 billion and already has acquired a series order for a half-dozen shows, from the Emmy-worthy “New Girl” to “The Following.”
As Eisner tells it, he was the face of the modern studio movie business at a time when executives at the top of Hollywood feared that big-budget superhero films would undermine their business. That’s partly why he left Disney years ago and began an unprecedented job search, including a brief stint serving as the chairman of Marvel Entertainment, the studio he created and the largest film studio in cinematic history. “I was
