The Canadian Women’s Hockey League (CWHL) is pleased to announce this afternoon that it has extended the season for five teams through June 30, 2016.
The CWHL will begin the first half of the 2016-17 season against the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL) on May 3 and culminate with the Women’s College Championship on June 23 in London, Ontario.
The schedule is highlighted by three games each on the CWHL’s West Coast as a three game double header before culminating with two WCHA games taking place on Friday, May 29 as well as on Saturday, June 1.
Three of the five CWHL teams have been awarded postseason berths at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. This was the first time this had happened in the CWHL.
The CWHL also added a Women’s National Championship game for the first time since 2008. The tournament will span two weekends, concluding in Victoria on October 19-20.
