I got to that point. I didn’t buy anything to sell, and my business did quite well. Eventually, when a friend started buying and selling their furniture, I realized that this was a way for me to make money, and I gave it a try. I thought my prices were amazing and that I would do extremely well. That didn’t work out very well. At first I sold like 3,000 pieces and did OK. I was using the website for free. I still kept it around about 1/3 of my income. Eventually, just about everyone asked to buy my furniture. I was thrilled and I just kept it up.
I didn’t use it in business. After the last 6 months or so, I realized that I could barely use that amount of my time to make a profit. I don’t want to put out crap because I don’t have a way to cover costs, but I don’t have the money for a lawyer or for the time. It’s not something that I can afford. I don’t have a mortgage on houses. It just makes sense to do without. I sold out, sold everything. I quit everything and have been working in the woods for the past year and a half. Here I am, and right now I am on the brink of bankruptcy. It’s just not worth it.
The point is that I need to stop selling things that are simply “worth” money. I’ve never had the money for “the dream.” I don’t have the means to work on something if I don’t have any money. I’ve always wanted to be like a craftsman and to do it alone, and I think that is something that I do not have. When that doesn’t work anymore, I am going to get another job.
How did I get to the point where I did that? How was it that I got as far as I did? How did I survive as long as I did?
There are so many reasons. My father had been a musician before getting into furniture. He had a way with words and a way with music. During the course of our family’s history, he had moved around a lot. He had moved from one city to another and back, but always had his roots. He worked a great deal, but just did the best he could with what he had. He didn’t have a fortune to fall back on to make a living, and he got very little help.
