Should I buy a table saw or miter saw first? – Woodworking Projects

I’ve been building tables with this miter saw quite a bit lately and my question pertains. I own a table saw. I am not convinced it can cut through the pine board but, I do believe it can cut through anything that has wood in it. I’ve built several different projects with this saw and can assure you, they were a lot of fun. The main problem I’ve had is making the cuts fast enough. But if you know what you’re doing and have confidence in your machine and know your work you should be able to cut through the board in the least amount of time possible.

The miter table saw has the advantage that everything comes pre-cut in the saw stand instead of having to place the boards back and forth. On the other hand, I would be hesitant of the miter table saw if you have wood in your plan to make a table top – the width of the table will be smaller than you would like it to be.

What about the other miter and jig saws?

I have the following saws in mine and they all seem to work on different tasks.

Taper jig saw

Bend saw (Taper saw)

Square saw (Miter saw)

Chisel saw

Tortoise jig saw

Taper bit bit saw

A quick note on the woodworking experience level that I have used these miter and jig saws on: the other saws are very accurate and they all cut great. The other saws were designed not to cut the way I want them to cut the wood so you will need to pay more attention and use some technique to get the result you want. I use the Taper jig saw as a general purpose miter saw that cuts straight through both 1 1/4″ and 2 1/2″ thick plywood. The other saw saws are really designed for the square/miter saws and you have to design your plan for the wood you want to use.

I have also used the Taper bit bit saw to trim down a 2 x 6 cabinet, and it worked great.
